As Barry Morgan indicates, the Lexmark X8350 is marked as a “Paperweight” in the open printing database( see http://www.openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Lexmark-X8350 ). So it appears there is not an easy way for this printer to work in Linux for you, yet.
Lexmark does have Linux drivers for some printers, e.g. Lexmark Platinum Pro905 (01-16-10, shows driver: lexmark_inkjet_09_driver_1.0_1.i386_ts.rpm.sh.tar.gz Lexmark Linux Driver for S605, Pro805, Pro905 for Linux OS.), and the C543dn is listed as working well in the open printing database.

I’ve personally emailed Lexmark with question about the X4550 model and they told me they didn’t have a Linux driver for it. They did offer a %20 discount for me to buy a new printer though. I would probably rather buy an HP printer.
Seems that a number of newer Lexmark printers work well with Linux, but since GNU/Linux has not fully become a first-class citizen in the eyes of some of these hardware manufacturers, one must use some careful research in applying their dollar-vote to only the Linux-friendly suppliers and models.
